Torchlight Procession

The opening event of Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2012/13 celebrations is the spectacular Torchlight Procession.
A total sell-out in 2011, last year’s event welcomed over 25,000 people to this world renowned family event. Join thousands of torch carriers as they illuminate the city from our new start position of Chambers Street to the Son et Lumière and fireworks finale on Calton Hill, led by Shetland’s Up Helly Aa’ Vikings and the massed pipes and drums.

The spectacular finale to the Torchlight Procession is a Son et Lumiére light and firework display, signaling the beginning of the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay festival.

The original and best New Year celebrations in the world! Join the party with 80,000 friends beneath the backdrop of Edinburgh Castle and dance your way into 2012 with incredible live music and entertainment, DJ’s, giant screens, outdoor bars and the world famous Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Midnight Fireworks.

PLEASE NOTE: Alcohol can be brought into this event arena but ONLY in plastic containers and cans. No glass can be brought into this event arena.
Not recommended for under 16’s Tickets for Concert in the Gardens & The Keilidh also grant access to the Edinburgh’s Hogmanay Street Party. No pass-outs permitted (i.e. leaving the arena and trying to gain re-entry).
No entry after 11pm, so please come early!
This is an outdoor event so please dress for the weather.
Pay bars and food outlets are located within the Street Party Arena. Alcohol can be brought into this event arena but ONLY in plastic containers. No glass or cans can be brought into this event arena.

This spectacular event (total sell-out 2010/11 & 2011/12) is set beneath the stunning backdrop of Edinburgh Castle, welcoming the New Year with a headline music artist, very special guests and the famous Edinburgh's Hogmanay Midnight Fireworks.

- This is an all standing, outdoor event so please dress for the weather. There will be pay bar and food outlets within the Concert in the Gardens arena.

Get your Lucky Dice at the new National Museum of Scotland Grand Gallery and let them take you on a journey through Edinburgh’s most iconic and atmospheric venues discovering performances and installations from some of Scotland’s most exciting and innovative artists and musicians.

National Museum of Scotland (Grand Gallery), Chambers Street Pick up your Lucky Dice from 12.30pm onwards (until 4pm) and your entry card for a chance to win the Grand Prize.
You will also have the chance to experience Lady Luck - The Cult of Fortuna by acclaimed artists Walker and Bromwich. A spectacular participatory installation specially commissioned for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay that is designed to bestow good luck on those who take part.
Throw the dice, from a 2 to a 12 and set off for your first destination.

Find your way to some of Edinburgh’s most atmospheric settings, churches, Fringe venues and out of the way places. Chance on something uniquely uplifiting at each destination. From Checkpoint Charlie to Old St Paul’s, from The Roxy Hall to St Giles’ Cathedral. All in Edinburgh’s Old Town.

- The Highland Ceilidh - SANDY BRECHIN’S CRAFTY CROFTERS
Picture this... a Scottish Village Hall on the side of the Loch on New Year’s Day afternoon – we’re bringing it to Edinburgh Old Town. Everybody’s there. The Crafty Crofters call the dancin’ while the locals and folk frae over the hill and far away skirl and whirl the Ner’day in!

- Rachel Sermanni
Singer songwriter Rachel Sermanni, with a growing reputation as one of Scotlands bright new things, has played more than 400 shows across UK, Europe, USA and Asia. Following her appearance on the BBC Hogmanay Show 2012/13 she plays live on New Year’s Day with songs from her uplifting new album Under Mountains. “A voice of incredible purity and songs to go stellar” Sunday Times “Bewitchingly graceful” The Herald
- Chancin’ it - presented by 'Words per Minute'
- “One of the best literary salons in the UK” Radio 4’s Front Row
Join novelist and performance artist Alan Bissett, poet William Letford, musician Lake Montgomery and more of the best writers, performers and musicians in the country as they get together for a cosy New Year’s Day musing on chance, fate and destiny. Hot chocolate will be served.
- The Favela of Fate
Find Mario Caribé’s Boteco Trio with Stewart Brown and Brian Molley for an afternoon of Brazilian grooves and Latin beats. Soothing bosanovas and sultry sambas from virtuoso musicians and live DJ. Meet and dance with a stranger at The Favela of Fate.
- Still
Gothic architecture, reflective music and an extraordinary installation offer a 'Still' place to ponder on the threshold of the year. Music from two of Scotland’s most innovative musicians, key figures in our musical landscape.

- Crows’ Bones
Folk luminaries accordionist Martin Green (Lau), nykelharpist Niklas Roswall and singers Becky Unthank and Inge Thomson draw together ghostly and mid- winter songs from northern lands, in a mesmerizing exploration that pinpoints the very essence of what is most beautiful and unsettling within our folk tradition.
